Moving forward into autumn

We’ve had a lot of plant casualties this summer, no doubt about that. Of the 2000+ trees we planted last year, I’m sad to say many have died. Plants in pots – just couldn’t stand the heat no matter how much I watered them. It’s been tough and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling slightly demoralised by what’s left of some of these plants that were blooming so beautifully only a couple of months ago. Thankfully I harvest when they’re in their prime, but what’s left has not fared well unfortunately. On the bright side though, I’ve been grateful for the dry weather as my new drying room is not ready, yet the humidity readers remain perfect!
I’ve been looking forward by preparing the first of our large beds for autumn planting of Ribwort Plantain, Yarrow and Calendula. Using my handy silage sheet to prepare the ground – at times like this I wonder if a pig would be a worthwhile addition to the family – by far the most efficient way to prepare a flower bed! A plough, a fertiliser and a lovely companion - all at the same time! I digress, as I don’t have a pig.
I hope everybun enjoyed August’s box with its additions of orchard apple and garden mint leaves. Next month I’ll be offering bramble and birch leaves to the mix – perfect additions as we step into autumn. And something even more special for October...
Well, thank you for reading and following my journey. I’ve been thinking about adding a little more to social media in the coming months as there is lots going on within Bramble and Bloom that I would like to share with you. However, if you follow my bunny/piggy hotel you may know about my love/hate relationship with social media. Let’s say I’m still trying to become friends with it, so I can bring you along with me a little more consistently – so let’s see how that goes.
I hope you and your fluffies enjoy what’s left of the summer and keep munching those herbs. Do remember I always LOVE to hear from you with comments, pics and vids of your little ones enjoying their forage box. They absolutely make my day so don’t hesitate for a second to get in touch!
Until next time, take care,
Louise
